The Nike+ Human Race 10K

Finishing StrongOn Sunday I ran my first 10K on Randall’s Island and for the most part it was pretty cool to take part of that Race… I especially liked that everyone wore the same color shirt and our Shirts had our bib numbers right on it. The atmosphere was also pretty cool.. very relax, no pressure kind of race. But I also had a few complaints… #1 I hated that we had to run the loop twice… mentally doesn’t help me feel energized at all knowing that I still had another lap to go after completing the first… #2 That very narrow bridge that when I got to it the first time, there were soooo many people trying to cross at the same time, that we all literally stopped to walk to even get on it, and while on it we couldn’t even run it. It took at least 4-6 minutes to get to and to cross that bridge… of course that affected our times… and while crossing the bridge, it was shaking… very disconcerting. Which brings me to reason #3 With nearly 10,000 people running the race, there were way too many people out there on this sometimes too narrow path they designated for us to run. And lastly # 4 What was up with those lead runners’ attitudes… I understand you are trying to be very competitive or what have you but really there was no need for the constant screaming to stay on the left or the “get the F&@^ out the way” to the rest of us slower runners on the first lap… but the poorly planned conditions (so many runners on a narrow path) and route of this race (reasons # 1 & 2) was not our doing and we were all trying to run this darn race and all had goals we were trying to reach.

Although I liked the festivities and the concert afterwards (The All-American Rejects were awesome), I’m not sure this is a race I would do again.

Kool Kat’s Krazy 5K

I was just recently introduced to mapmyrun.com (I’d been using other routing websites which are not as cool) so I thought I’d have a bit of fun mapping different routes to take my runs… Also wanted to see where I stand on this 5k under 30 minute business. Well didn’t quite happen and here’s why:
I still wasn’t feeling great to run.
I had pains here there and everywhere.
This wasn’t an actual race so I didn’t really put forth too much effort.
There was an unexpected slope that I didn’t realize was coming. I could go on…. All in all my coaches would not be proud… but at least I now have a pretty cool 5K route mapped out near my house.

Slow run on the VMP!!

After a week of not doing ANYTHING in the way of exercising (for many reasons), this run felt very labored (for those reasons, plus add the hills), as is reflected in the time. I hope to do better than that when I do the Human Race 10K next sunday!!

Summer Streets!!

Took advantage of the Summer Streets car-free stretch in the city from over the brooklyn bridge in Park Slope  right up to Central Park & 72nd Street… a very easy and nice day for a run. Will do it again next week probably… Mayor Bloomberg rocks!! Maybe next time they’d do it for every Saturday in the Summer.

Treadmill Run

Got an impromtu day off due to a power failure at the school where I work because of the rain on Thursday, so I escaped to the gym for an hour. I felt like this was first “real” run since the race… I was starting to feel really out of shape there. It felt good to get back to it..

A bit of a Hill workout

Well it was an attempt to do it on my own… so definitely not was intense as the hill workouts I did with the TNT coaches…. I’m not sure of the distance but at least 200m up the hill and slow easy recovery back… did that about 4x. With a 10 min warmup and 10 min cool down.

Out on VMP

Nice and easy stroll on the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway…. wanted to do more but didn’t have a lot of time.  I’ve now registered to run the NIKE + Human Race 10K on August 31st (My first 10K)… and I will be on vacation in PR for the next couple of days so probably will not be able to do much running there.

Running through the city - The NYC HALF- Marathon!!

Finishing with hands up

What an awesome race that was!!! Couldn’t ask for better weather - rained before the race and rained after, so it was cool and not super hot… which was okay by me!!!

My favorite part was running down 7th Ave, right through times square!!! WOW seeing the street so empty and looking at all the flashing billboards was totally surreal experience– and the music along the way and the sing along… I sang along… I probably should have been running a little harder.. but who could help it?

It was beautiful, it was fun… I loved it and I’ll do it again!!!!!!

Crossing the finish line!
