GTS in BK

I Know I said I loved Central Park… but the thought of waking up so early just to get to the group training sessions in the city is not motivating… so I wake up late enough to make it to the Brooklyn sessions on time. Prospect Park isn’t so bad. The Pros: it’s closer, there’s parking, not as crowded, and they do have that hill that gets me every time.., the cons: it’s not central park… At some point I will wake up early enough to join the group at CP… after all the race is gonna start there, might as well get used to it.

Morning Easy Run

Ran on the treadmill this morning… haven’t done that in a  few days, getting so nice out now who wants to run on a treadmill? Anyway, wanted to get some strength training in but I started running and decided to just run 4 miles and ran out of time for any strength work. Guess I’ll do that at home  at some point!

Group Training Session

Did some cross-training with the group…  I really thought I might die. I got there late so I missed the first run and set of drills with the TEAM. But what I did catch went something like this:

 10 min easy run (not by my definition)

15 squats, 15 lunges on each side, 15 lunges stepping back (each side), running drills lifting knees up - 2x

Another 10 minute so-called easy run

Another set of squats and lunges - this time holding the squats for 5 seconds… those killed!! then suicides (very appropriate name for it) 

And topped it off with yet ANOTHER 10 minute run… at which point I was hardly moving while “running”….. and came back and stretched really good! I was happy to go home… what a workout, imagine I got there on time!!

4 Miles in the Park

Worked out in Brooklyn this past saturday, in Prospect Park.. turns out we can go back and forth between the parks. Plus easier to get to Brooklyn at 8:30 in the morning rather than Manhattan… would have to wake up way to early..for a Saturday!

The Kick-Off!!!

So last week was the kick-off to the training that will get me to complete a Half-Marathon by the end of July.

First on Wednesday we had the Team In Training Kick-Off meeting, where we got to meet our mentors, coaches and the other teammates. We also got the opportunity to meet and hear from our Honored Teammates, survivors or current blood cancer patients, whose courage provide us with the inspiration and movation we need to keep us focused on the common goal. Being there confirmed for me that I was part of something really amazing and doing something that is extremely important. It just got me really pumped and I couldn’t wait to get started.

Saturday was the first training session at Central Park and I was really psyched about it. I met a great bunch of people and it just seems like it’s gonna be a whole lot of fun. We only ran 3.4 miles which is fine by me since according to the coach, by the time he’s done with us we’ll be running for a very ‘freaking’ long time…. he likes to say freaking a lot..lol… I like him!
