Running through the city - The NYC HALF- Marathon!!

What an awesome race that was!!! Couldn’t ask for better weather - rained before the race and rained after, so it was cool and not super hot… which was okay by me!!!

My favorite part was running down 7th Ave, right through times square!!! WOW seeing the street so empty and looking at all the flashing billboards was totally surreal experience– and the music along the way and the sing along… I sang along… I probably should have been running a little harder.. but who could help it?

It was beautiful, it was fun… I loved it and I’ll do it again!!!!!!

Run

I attempted to get a good run in before the next long run with the group tomorrow… but for whatever reason.. I started getting this pain in my chest while I was on the treadmill, like maybe a hunger pains… which is probably what it was since I don’t eat anything before going to the gym… dunno why. So I had to stop after one mile… then I attempted the cross-trainer but same thing… so it wasn’t cuz I was runnin’ it’s cuz I was hungry.  And it was gas pains… I did get a strength workout in though, since I was already there at the gym.

GTS - Hills again!!!

Well last week I couldn’t hang with the hills, cuz of the knee pains… but this week I was up for it. I got new sneakers last week, and they seemed to have made a world of difference on my long run this past Saturday and I was able to run those hills yesterday.

The workout: 3/4 mile warm up. 5 x 400 meters hard effort uphill, with 400 meters recovery back downhill. 3/4 uphill cool down back to meeting spot.

I thought I could have gotten away with not too hard an effort up the hill…. but when the coach runs up behind you up the hill, telling you to pick it up and really pushing you, kinda have to pick it up a bit, so my plan fell through. That was a workout!!!! Brought back memories of my old days on the track team with coach Wheeler… but this was even tougher since I had to run hard + uphill… but it didn’t kill me so I guess it’ll make me stronger.

Bridge to Bridge Run-

Ran over the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges, got to see some beautiful sights - the New York City Waterfalls… if you haven’t seen them, go check them out, they’ll be there till October something. Although I caught some unpleasant smells while going down Flatbush ave… the air over there is not good for running- at all. And ran up the Park Slope..uh..slope, again, back to the park where I ran an extra 1.5 miles to make sure it was definitely over 11 miles. Felt better than the first time I did the 10…. so I really and truly believe now that I’m about ready for the race…YAY!!!! TNT performed some miracles I tell ya, as I am living proof. Went from only running only 3 miles in May to - well on July 27th- a Half Marathon… how awesome is that? I’m not even freaking out anymore that the race is in less than 15 days!!!

Strength at the Gym

After running the treadmill, I stretched well, worked the abs.. then proceeded on the the machines… leg press, hamstring curls, seated rows, shoulder press, curls, tricep press thing and more abs on the machines. I was pooped by the time I was all done.

More Strength at home…

My daughter wasn’t feeling well…so while she slept I took the opportunity to do some strength work. Squats, lunges, leg raises… and ab stuff. Not as vigorous as the other day, but still something.

GTS Hills

Something weird was going on with my legs yesterday… I was feeling this new kind of knee pain…the other knee pain I’m used to… this new one kinda scares me, but the coach believes it may be my sneakers so I’ll get new ones, and ice and see what happens. But the hills were painful… had to modify a bit.
