The Nike+ Human Race 10K
On Sunday I ran my first 10K on Randall’s Island and for the most part it was pretty cool to take part of that Race… I especially liked that everyone wore the same color shirt and our Shirts had our bib numbers right on it. The atmosphere was also pretty cool.. very relax, no pressure kind of race. But I also had a few complaints… #1 I hated that we had to run the loop twice… mentally doesn’t help me feel energized at all knowing that I still had another lap to go after completing the first… #2 With nearly 10,000 people running the race, there were way too many people out there on this sometimes too narrow course they designated for us to run. #3 There was a very narrow bridge that when I got to it the first time, there were soooo many people trying to cross at the same time, that we all literally stopped to walk to even get on it, and while on it we couldn’t even run it. It took at least 4-6 minutes to get to and to cross that bridge… of course that affected our times… and while crossing the bridge, it was shaking… very disconcerting. And lastly # 4 What was up with those lead runners’ attitudes… I understand they’re very competitive or what have you but really there was no need for the constant screaming or the “get the F&@^ out the way” to the rest of us slower runners on the first lap… not to mention that the poorly planned course of this race was not our doing… we were all trying to run this darn race and all had goals we were trying to reach. End rant.
I liked the festivities, the feelings of accomplishment, the yogurt and Bear Naked snack, and the concert afterwards (The All-American Rejects were awesome), but I’m not sure this is a race I would do again.

Ah, the Type-A’s out in full force :0) Congrats on your 10k accomplishment. I don’t like running in loops either. - K

I can’t imagine running loops, just when you think you’re back…. keep going. Yuck. Screw those mean elite runners, you did a great job!

Good for you running it! Yeah, I don’t like races with too many runners at all, the low-key ones are best. (And they have some small ones with festivities at the end too, just be on the lookout!)
